The Perth Mint 1 Kilogram Cast Silver Bar is a pour-moulded bar stamped with The Perth Mint's iconic swan hallmark and "1 KILO / FINE SILVER / 9999." Each bar is individually serial-numbered and cast at The Perth Mint's East Perth refinery. The plain cast reverse — with its organic texture of flow lines and crystalline grain structure — is characteristic of the pour process.

At 99.99% purity, the Perth Mint silver bar exceeds the 999.5 fineness of ABC Bullion's silver bar — making it the highest-purity 1kg silver bar available from an Australian government-owned refinery. The Perth Mint's LBMA accreditation ensures global acceptance at face value.

Available individually or in the Perth Mint signature royal blue presentation box — an elegant collector-grade box holding 5 bars (5kg / 160.75 troy oz total). As an authorised Perth Mint dealer, every bar we supply comes directly from the Mint with full chain of custody.

Investment-grade gold (≥99.5% Au) is GST-exempt under Australian law. Silver does not qualify — all silver bars attract 10% GST regardless of purity. Key implications:

• Buy price: The price shown is GST-inclusive. A full GST tax invoice is provided with every purchase.
• Sell price: When selling silver, you receive the ex-GST price. The GST effectively forms part of the buy-sell spread. GST-registered businesses may claim input tax credits — consult your tax adviser.
• CGT: Selling silver is a CGT event. If held more than 12 months, the 50% CGT discount applies to individuals.
• SMSF: Silver in an SMSF may be treated as a "collectible." Independent tax advice is strongly recommended before purchasing silver in an SMSF.

Both are excellent 1kg silver bars from LBMA-accredited Australian refineries. The key differences:

• Fineness: Perth Mint is 9999 (99.99%). ABC Bullion is 999.5 (99.95%). Perth Mint is marginally higher purity.
• Hallmark: Perth Mint swan (government refinery) vs ABC rounded square logo (private refinery). Both are globally recognised.
• Presentation box: Perth Mint uses a royal blue box; ABC Bullion uses a black box. Both hold 5 bars.
• Premium: Both carry approximately ~8% over spot at 1kg. Premiums are competitive and may vary — check live prices on both pages.
• Brand recognition: The Perth Mint's government backing and LBMA Good Delivery status give it marginally wider global recognition, particularly outside Australia.

For most investors, both bars are equivalent at 1kg. The Perth Mint is preferred if global resale liquidity is the primary concern. For purely accumulation purposes, whichever bar is in stock at the better price on the day is the right choice.

Silver tarnishes when exposed to air, moisture, and sulfur compounds. To minimise tarnish during home storage: keep bars in their original protective wrapping, store in the Perth Mint presentation box (which provides an effective barrier), and avoid rubber-lined safes (rubber off-gasses sulfur compounds that accelerate tarnishing).

Tarnish is surface-only and does not affect silver content or resale value at reputable dealers. However, for optimal preservation, our allocated vault storage is ideal — bars are stored in climate-controlled, Class 10 vaults with no atmospheric contamination risk. First 3 months free with every purchase; 0.15% per annum thereafter, including full Lloyd's of London replacement insurance.
